Car Alarms Prevent Car Owners from Becoming a Statistic

June 12, 2012 Category :Car Alarms 0

Auto theft is a problem in every city and town.  With a car stolen every thirty seconds, thieves are always trying to find a new way to break in or steal vehicles. The only way to not become a statistic and lose the valuables inside the car is for car owners to use car alarms to deter the thieves.  The more protection car owners provide on their vehicle the less likely they are to become a car owner without a car.

Common Sense

The first step to protecting a car is to use common sense.  Car owners should avoid leaving the keys in the ignition, leaving valuables in site of anyone walking by and always have the windows and sun roof closed.  A car that has something in open view for everyone to see is like a written invitation to car thieves.

Where car owners park their car also makes a difference in their chances of losing their car.  The more often the car is parked inside a garage the less likely thieves will case that area, waiting for the right time to steal the car.  When the car must be parked outside, it is important that all doors and windows are locked and that the wheels are turned in towards the curb.

Car Alarms

Beyond using their best judgment to protect their vehicles, car owners should invest in car alarms for the ultimate protection on their car.  The multitude of options available makes it possible for every car owner to have the type of car alarm they desire from simple to complex.

Car owners can choose from basic systems that simply have the visible blinking light inside the car to let would-be thieves know that there is an alarm installed.  The basic feature of this model is the loud, blaring sirens that sound when the doors or windows are opened or broken.  There are also more advanced models that include features such as ignition-kill, sensors to notify when the glass is shattered, dual shock sensors, remote start, GPS locaters or tracking devices and even operations that can be handled from a smart phone.  The more advanced models are the best way to protect a car from any attempts of being stolen.

Be Aware

Car owners should always stay aware of the latest theft statistics in their area. Even though auto theft is down to the lowest it has been in recent years, measuring at around 57 percent recently, there are still plenty of auto thieves out there.  The latest trend is to steal common, everyday cars rather than the exotic or sports car.  This is mostly due to the fact that cars for common vehicles such as aToyota, Honda or Acura have parts that can be sold for cash.  People that buy these parts can reuse them, making them a hot commodity for car thieves.  Owners of the commonly stolen cars should arm their car with the proper car alarm to prevent theft.

Best Protection

By far the best way to protect any car is with top of the line car alarms.  Even though many cars come equipped with an anti-theft device from the factor, they are usually not sufficient enough.  Finding the right aftermarket car alarm for a specific vehicle is the only way to fully protect a car.  Most thieves have figured out a way around the factory installed alarms, choosing an aftermarket alarm is the only way to provide a car with the best protection.
